Love of Literacy Book Drive

Book Drive to Benefit Early Literacy for Oceanside Kids
Oceanside Promise Community Partners Strive to Collect 10,000 Children’s Books

The Oceanside Unified School District is partnering with the Oceanside Promise and other organizations to collect children’s books for deserving children, ages zero to five.

Please join us in donating new or gently used books, in English and Spanish, so that we can better prepare students for Kindergarten and build literacy starting at an earlier age.

Early exposure to books will increase Kindergarten preparedness and improve literacy rates, thereby improving children’s long-term success in school and life.

Give a book and invest in a child!

OUSD will have a collection bins at all 23 school sites as well and the District Office (2111 Mission Ave) and Educational Support Services (2080 Mission Ave) buildings from October 23 to November 9.

Thanks in advance for your help and support of this important community-wide effort!

Zero Waste Initiative

Oceanside Unified School District in partnership with the City of Oceanside has been on the Road to Zero Waste since 2012.  In fact, OUSD became the first school district in the nation to formally commit to a goal of Zero Waste with the adoption of the OUSD Zero Waste Resolution in 2014.

  • Del Rio Elementary: Incorporated Zero Waste behaviors throughout school culture, which is demonstrated through their extensive recycling education and promotion, extending from the classroom to school events and to the surrounding community.
  • South Oceanside Elementary: Included all grades (K-5) in the Zero Waste Leadership Team to engage all students in taking responsibility for reducing and properly disposing of their waste.
  • Laurel Elementary:Continues to demonstrate their ongoing commitment to Zero Waste through administrative and staff support and provides on campus daily encouragement to reduce, reuse and recycle for their school, their community and their future.
