Palmquist Elementary School Modernization
Completed July 2013

Built in the mid-1960s, Palmquist Elementary School has been entirely rebuilt. In addition to modernizing existing classrooms, food service/ multipurpose room and restrooms, four new kindergarten classrooms have been added in a new location on campus that provides a separate drop-off and playground area. The library/media center and administrative student support areas have also been expanded. The special education classroom has also been expanded to better accommodate handicapped students. Improvements have been made to provide new parking for staff and visitors, plus bus drop-off areas for students.

Mission Elementary School Modernization
Completed July 2013

Built in 1953, Mission Elementary School has undergone a full reconstruction during the 2012-13 school year. In addition to modernizing existing classrooms, restrooms, and the food service/multipurpose room, several classrooms and the main administrative office were demolished and replaced. The library was moved to a larger, modernized building, with the former library space being converted to a classroom to serve handicapped students. The traffic flow around the school has been improved, with parking expanded to provide separate parking for staff and visitors.

North Terrace Elementary School - Modernization
Completed July 2012

Built in 1955 and serving mainly Camp Pendleton students, North Terrace has been entirely reconstructed with new up-to-date classroom buildings, student support services and student restrooms. Several classrooms were converted to classrooms for students with special needs and additional classrooms were added to accommodate an expanded academic program serving preschool through grade 6. The multipurpose room was completely renovated and a new, larger library/media center was added. Renovation included a new main entrance located on base at Santa Rosa Drive, as well as a new parking lot and new play areas. 

  

 

Libby Elementary School - Modernization
Completed April 2012


Built in the mid-1960’s, Libby Elementary School underwent a complete renovation, including fully modernized classrooms, student services and library, as well a new multipurpose room and kitchen, new additional kindergarten classrooms, a new parking lot with student drop-off area, playground improvements, and unique circular seating areas for both study and rest.

 

Oceanside High School New Music Building  
Completed April 2012


The existing music building, built in 1955, was replaced with a new, larger two-classroom, acoustically improved building to accommodate both the band and choir programs. The new music building also provides practice and instrument storage areas, student and staff restrooms and office space.

El Camino High School Stadium Plaza Improvements
Completed August 2011


Additional lighting, fencing, a retaining wall and stairways were added to the stadium plaza area, putting the finishing touches on the athletic field improvement project completed in fall 2010.

Oceanside High School Career Technology Buildings
Completed August 2011


Two classroom buildings were added to the campus to allow for expansion of the career technology educational program. The new facilities were designed specifically for students to receive health sciences and building trades career and technical training. A new 141-space parking lot was added adjacent to the buildings to provide parking in the southwest corner of the campus.

Santa Margarita Elementary School - Modernization
Completed June 2011


Built in 1959 on Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base, Santa Margarita Elementary School has been entirely reconstructed with new up-to-date classroom buildings. Only two buildings from the original campus, the multipurpose room and library, remained on site to receive complete renovation.  In addition to its contemporary architecture, the site has been fully re-landscaped with a variety of native plants, grasses and river rock to complement its beauty. The campus has been reconfigured to include a new kindergarten area, new front entry and parking and new playgrounds. Additional classrooms have been added to accommodate children from new base family housing and special needs students.

El Camino High School Athletic Field Improvement Project
Completed - October 2010


Major upgrades to the high school's stadium were completed during the short time span between the end of the 2009 and the beginning of the 2010 football season, including a new synthetic turf athletic field and 9-lane track, ADA-accessible seating on the home grandstand and over 1,100 additional visitor seats, a ticket booth, addition of a visitors' concession booth and restroom and ADA upgrades to the home concession booth and restrooms, a new press box lift, a parking lot and new field lighting on the visitors' side.

Oceanside High School Athletic Field Improvement Project

The high school's stadium received major upgrades during the short time span between the end of the 2009 and the beginning of the 2010 football season, including a new synthetic turf athletic field and 9-lane track, the addition of over 2,500 grandstand seats on the home side with relocation of over 1,000 bleacher seats and a restroom building to the visitors’ side, a new fitness center with restrooms and locker room, a new ticket booth, and field lighting.

Lincoln Middle School - Modernization
Completed June 2010


OUSD’s second oldest middle school with the majority of buildings erected in 1963 received a comprehensive renovation. The school reopens in August 2010 with fully modernized classrooms, multipurpose room, student services, and library, as well as replacement of temporary trailer classrooms with new modular classrooms. Construction of a new boys’ and girls’ shower/locker building, student and staff restrooms, a new vehicle entry, parking lot, play areas, and ADA improvements completes the upgrades for this campus.

Del Rio Elementary School - Modernization

Completed February 2010

Established in 1973, Del Rio Elementary School was an aging school comprised of poorly located relocatable buildings and trailers removed and/or demolished during modernization. One building remained to be renovated and repurposed as a multipurpose room with state-of-the-art kitchen facilities. In addition, this 14-acre site has been completed redesigned with all new buildings spaciously placed. Reorienting the school’s layout resulted in a new main entrance from North River Road. Four kindergarten and special education preschool classrooms with separate access and parking lot, 18 regular classrooms, a new library, student services building, restrooms, and playfields surround a central core amphitheater for assemblies and special events. The school is located adjacent the Melba Bishop Park and Recreation Center, which provides additional recreational facilities. Funded by Proposition G and H.

Chavez Middle School - New Middle School

Completed July 2008

Chavez Middle School is a new 37-classroom school that includes science laboratories, administration, library, multi-purpose, shower/locker facilities, kitchen and food court areas, in addition to play areas with soccer and baseball fields, and hard courts for basketball, handball, and tennis. Modular and two-story design concepts have been incorporated for space efficiency, cost-savings and diverse functionality. The school is located adjacent to the 29-acre Mance Buchanon Park, which provides additional recreation facilities. Funded by Proposition G.

Louise Foussat Elementary School - New Construction

Completed January 2007

Identical in design to Nichols Elementary School, Foussat opened its doors to students in August 2007, with 34 teaching stations, a library, multipurpose room and food service facility, an outdoor amphitheater among other amenities.  Funded by Proposition G.

Oceanside High School Gymnasium - New Construction Modernization

Completed November 2006

One of the final projects planned for Oceanside High School, the renovation of the gymnasium, also included the conversion of the stage to PE classrooms and reconstruction of the girls' shower/locker area into department offices. New construction included a one-story front entrance addition and demolition of the existing boys' shower/locker area, replacing it with a two-story gymnasium addition.  Funded by Proposition G.

Completed August 2008

Aging facilities built in 1971, including Business and Science classroom buildings, the administration, counseling and student services, were completely upgraded with interior and exterior facelifts. The entire campus is undergoing modernization in a phased construction process that supports the school's educational program.  Funded by Proposition G.
