Welcome to Preschool!

Oceanside Unified School District hosts four state funded preschool sites at Del Rio, Mission, North Terrace, and Santa Margarita Elementary Schools. In order to participate in the program, parents of enrolled children must meet income eligibility requirements as determined by the California Department of Education. Children enrolled in the program must live in the Oceanside Unified School District boundaries and be four years old on/or before September 1 of the current school year. 

Please do not register your preschool-aged child online.  You must fill out a preschool packet.

State Funded Preschool Requirements:

The Oceanside Unified School District (OUSD) enrolls families in the State Preschool Program using criteria as required by the California Department of Education, Child Development Division Code.

  • Families must meet State Income Ceiling.
  • The child must be 4 years old on or before September 1, 2017.
  • Families must live within the Oceanside Unified School District boundaries.
  • Parent participates in the program one day (3 hours) per month

Registration Requirements:

Please submit an original and a copy of the following mandatory documents

  • Current proof of income (pay stubs for one month)
  • Proof of address (mortgage agreement, rental statement, or utility bill)
  • Certified Birth Certificate for child
  • Birth Certificates are required for children 18 years and younger in the family
  • Child’s up-to-date immunizations
  • Current negative TB test results for the child
  • Current negative TB test results for the parent/guardian (monthly participation)
  • Current child’s physical, not earlier than six months of start date (Feb. 15, 2017)
  • Effective September 1, 2016, a person may not be employed or volunteer at a child care center or family child care center unless he or she has been immunized against influenza, pertussis, and measles or qualifies for an exemption. Unless an exemption applies, each employee and volunteer shall receive an influenza vaccination between August 1 and December 1 of each year.

Preschool Registration

OUSD is accepting student applications for our 4 preschool programs located at Del Rio, Mission, North Terrace, and Santa Margarita Elementary Schools. 

Preschool classrooms have an 8:1 student to teacher ratio. All schools feature an instructional practice that is culturally and linguistically tailored to meet the social, emotional, physical and educational needs of each student. Children learn best in an environment with consistent limits they are allowed to make choices leading toward self-direction, independence, creativity and divergent thinking. Program activities include both active and quiet components, child-and teacher-directed tasks, group and individual work.

Applications will be available at all elementary schools and The Educational Support Services Bldg., 2080 Mission Avenue, Oceanside, 92058 beginning May 1st. ESS building hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Registration dates: May 1st through May 31st.
