#GoOpen 2018

#GoOpen Summit

Registration is now closed -

The one day #GoOpen summit is an opportunity to learn more about the US Department of Education’s #GoOpen initiative and will include experts in the area of Open Educational Resources from around the country and from within our region. This will be a theory into practice event.

Open Educational Resources (OER) are defined by the Federal Department of Education as materials that can be used for teaching and learning that are online and free to use, edit, and distribute without violating copyright. The #GoOpen Campaign was designed through the Department of Education to help schools transform their educational systems through the use and creation of OERs. For more information, please visit: http://tech.ed.gov/open-education/

Audience: The #GoOpen Regional summits are intended for new districts who have recently committed to become a #GoOpen Launch district or are curious about making a scalable transition to openly licensed educational resources. The day is also designed for #GoOpen Ambassador districts who have done some work on making this transition and can offer to facilitate one or more of the workshops throughout the day. We are encouraging districts to send administrators, teachers, librarians, and media techs.

#GoOpen Summit Goals:

  1. District leaders will be able to reliably distinguish between and identify the advantages, disadvantages, limitations, and tradeoffs of  open, free, CC licensing.
  2. Define and identify examples/proof points through the Story Engine in order to visualize the variety of #GoOpen entry points and plans.
  3. Become familiar with #GoOpen Launch Packet and identify the readiness of each district and where they are in the process.
  4. Showcase work of Ambassador districts through conversations and presentations
  5. Develop mentor and peer relationships between districts and between districts and state leaders that lead to long term collaboration.
  6. Learn from teachers, media technicians and librarians who are transforming their classroom learning environments using OER materials.

The Many Benefits of Sponsorship

Hosted Closing Reception (Happy Hour) - Please Register for the Closing Reception (in addition to registering for the #GoOpen Summit) - SIGN UP HERE

Thanks to the generous support of Journeys, the Classroom of the Future Foundation (CFF) will be hosting a Closing Reception following the Second Annual #GoOpen Summit on Friday, April 13th from 3:30pm - 5:30pm at Mission Ave Bar & Grill. This networking event will be a great opportunity for education, business, and nonprofit leaders to continue conversations from the summit about open educational resources (OER), career pathways, and preparing our students for the jobs of the future.

Drinks and appetizers will be provided to guests thanks to the generous support of Journeys.

Mission Ave Bar & Grill is only a six minute walk from Oceanside High School's Performing Arts Center. We encourage summit attendees to walk over following the conclusion of the summit. Street parking is also available. The event will begin promptly at 3:30pm.

For those that are unable to attend the entire #GoOpen Summit, we welcome you to join us at the Closing Reception.

This event is free but space is limited. We believe that the Closing Reception will be set apart from other networking gatherings on this topic because of the mix of top educators and business leaders that will be taking part. Our hope is that this mix will build cross-sector understanding around the collective need to expand OER implementation and career pathways in our community.

Please direct any questions about the Closing Reception to Jane Schlosberg at jane@classroomofthefuture.org or 858-292-3869.
